PSA stands for prostate specific antigen, it’s a chemical produced by your prostate cells. Under normal circumstances a small amount of PSA will register in your bloodstream.

It is vitally important that you have both tests done a digital rectal examination (DRE) and a PSA. The American Urological Association recommends starting prostate screening at the age of 50.

1. African American men
2. Men with a family history of prostate cancer
3. Men who develop persistent urinary symptoms
